"Andre Plays the Violin" features in the book "New Zealand Gallery" (2010 / page 39); compiled by Denis Robinson and published by New Holland Publishers.
In this fine art print I've named this little sparrow Andre after the wonderfully inspiring and talented Andre Rieu whose live musical performances are as much loved for the beautiful staging and costumes, as for the emotionally and spiritually uplifting music.
As a bird and musician, Andre the sparrow's staging is created from what he may consider beautiful, dramatic, perhaps even emotionally alluring in his natural surroundings: young maple saplings losing their Autumn leaves for the first time, each leaf colourfully illuminated overhead; the twinkling of distant stars offset by the radiance of a full moon and the instinctive and soothing appeal of a cool, glassy pond.
As the full moon and water elements in this painting are well-known for symbolizing and stirring strong emotion, I've included both to complement, on a subconscious level, Andre's deeper emotion as he stands inspired to play his violin with great intensity and feeling.
